Headaches
Headaches Are you one of the 9 million Americans who suffer with "chronic tension-type headaches?" Or even worse, one of the 11 million who suffer from debilitating migraines? Then you should know that a recent landmark research study conducted by Duke University found that chiropractic care was a more effective form of treatment for certain types of headaches than either pain medication or physical therapy. A course of chiropractic adjustments resulted in sustained improvement in headache frequency and severity.

Neck Pain
A recent study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine compared three modes of treatment to determine which was the most effective in improving mobility and reducing neck pain. Group one received continued routine care by a medical doctor and were ordered to take pain medication and rest. Group two received chiropractic adjustments. Group three underwent physical therapy and a supervised exercise program.
After 7 weeks of treatment, 68.3% of patients who received chiropractic care reported that they were either "completely recovered" or had significantly improved as a result of treatment ---- compared with only 50.8% of the physical therapy group and 35.9% of patients under a physicians care.

Low Back Pain
Low Back Pain About 85 percent of the population will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their lives! That's almost all of us. The problem is so bad that at any one time, according to one researcher, 6.8% of the U.S. adult population is suffering from an episode of back pain lasting more than two weeks.
A recent study published in the prestigious medical journal, Spine, found that when comparing chiropractic and medical care that at the end of the study, the group receiving chiropractic adjustments experienced a 450% increase in the number of patients fully recovered versus the medication group. In layman's terms that means for every 2 people that fully recovered with medication, 9 people fully recovered with chiropractic care.

Sciatica and Leg Pain
Your sciatic nerve is your longest and largest nerve. It is made up of five roots that leave your low back, join in your pelvis and then travel to the muscles and joints of your thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot and toes.
If your sciatic nerve becomes inflamed, the condition is called sciatica (pronounced si-ad-i-ka). The pain can be intense! It often follows the path of your nerve; down the back of your legs and thighs, ankle, foot and toes, but it can also radiate to your back! Along with burning, sharp pains, you may also feel nerve sensations such as pins-and-needles, tingling, prickling, crawling sensations or tenderness. Ironically, your leg may also feel numb!
Chiropractors correct the vertebral subluxation complex which causes poor spinal alignment and nerve pressure, thus relieving stress on the spinal nerves, joints and discs.

Pregnancy
Pregnancy During pregnancy, there are several physiological and endocrinological changes that occur when the female body prepares the environment for the developing baby. Establishing pelvic balance and alignment is the most important reason to obtain chiropractic care during pregnancy. When the pelvis is misaligned it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby. This restriction is called intrauterine constraint. A misaligned pelvis may also make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, approximately 4% of all pregnancies result in a breech presentation. The late Larry Webster, D.C., Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, developed a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment which enables chiropractors to establish balance in the pregnant woman's pelvis and reduce undue stress to her uterus and supporting ligaments. This balanced state in the pelvis makes it easier for a breech baby to turn naturally. The technique is known as the Webster Technique. According to the July/August 2002 Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, there was an 82% success rate of babies turning vertex when doctors of chiropractic used the Webster Technique. Drs. Greenman and Gaffney are well versed in this technique.

Healthier Children
A young spine, with few exceptions, usually develops perfectly by the end of pregnancy. It's what happens around the time of birth and in the months thereafter which can sometimes upset the normal functioning of the spine. Spinal segments can be pushed out of place or jammed by the position of the baby in the womb, or can suffer similar problems during labor from the trauma of the trip through the birth canal, or from the birthing process itself. Medical research has identified the fact that many problems early in a child's life can come from birth trauma. Spinal problems can also occur as a result of the frequent falls suffered by young infants in the first months of life.
Only a trained chiropractor can locate these subluxations and correct them. Just like your child has their teeth checked for cavities, they should also have their spines checked for subluxations. A child's spine is not adjusted like an adult's. The doctors of Long Point Family Chiropractic take great care in the gentle correction of young spines.

Ear Infections
Ear Infections Over 110 million prescriptions for antibiotics were written last year. According to the American Medical Association's own experts, up to half of those prescriptions were unnecessary or ineffective. A significant portion of those 55 million useless prescriptions were written for children's ear infections. The New England Journal of Medicine reported that "only 1 in 8 children with inner ear infections benefit from antibiotics."
Many studies have shown the strong connection between neuromusculoskeleal dysfunction of the Eustachian tube (the tube that drains the ear) and middle ear infections. Nerve interference caused by vertebral subluxations in the upper part of the neck can lead to improper functioning of the Eustachian tube. Specific chiropractic spinal adjustments reduce nerve interference, improving the function of the Eustachian tube, and allow the middle ear to heal naturally.

Accidents and Injuries
Most accidents are minor. In those cases chiropractic care should be sought out as quickly as possible. Too often severe health problems first began as little fall, whiplash, bump or shake-up that may have caused some pain initially but it was later forgotten.
Chiropractic patients often discover that the cause of their present complaint was a childhood fall or even birth trauma. There may have been no broken bones or serious bleeding, but there was spinal damage that was never corrected. The medical doctors may have checked them and said they were fine, but M.D.'s do not know how to analyze the spinal column for subluxations nor do they know how to correct them. Millions of people leave emergency rooms unaware that they are carrying around hidden spinal distortions that may cause severe health problems at a later date.
